Forks, Washington: Five years after Bella Swan’s disappearance.
The Cullen family is still residing n Forks, keeping up their human charade. The “children” in the Cullen family are attending college in Port Angeles, opting to stay together as a family rather than split off after graduating high school. They still have another year before they will begin to look too young and have to move, and they are still living together as a family. Mostly it is because they all privately worry what will happen if they split apart. Edward never recovered from the loss of Bella Swan, and though he tries to act as if everything was alright his family knows better. After losing Bella at the ballet studio, they tracked the nomads as far as they could. Alice kept a watch on Bella’s choices for two years after the incident but she stopped watching her since then. The Cullen family knew that Bella had had ample opportunity to escape James and Victoria but could not understand why she never tried. It was only Alice’s visions of Bella deciding against returning to Forks that finally made Edward give up the hunt. Once she joined the Volturi Guard, even Edward had to admit that he lost hope of ever seeing her again.
So when Bella makes an unexpected return to Forks with Renata Monroe in tow, claiming to the human world that she was kidnapped and only just now escaped her captors, it sends the Cullen family into turmoil. They try to figure out her purpose of coming back to Forks, but she eludes them at every turn, not allowing them to get her alone and keeping as far away from them as she can. She spends most of her time in town and trying to contact her old friend Jacob Black. Now that she is a vampire and banned from going to La Push, seeing Jake has only gotten harder. By all accounts Bella is simply a traumatized girl who is doing her best to pick up the pieces of her life, but the Cullens and the Quileute’s know better.
La Push is having problems besides Bella Swan. Due to the constant presence of the Cullen family, a group of Quileutes have become shape-shifters, taking on the form of wolves. It is everything their legends said it was. They have to keep themselves a secret, but with no threat around the reservation, they get restless. Leah Clearwater is the only female to ever become a shifter and makes things exceedingly difficult with her constant anger at Sam and Emily, her alpha and the man she loved who has imprinted on her cousin and broken her heart. But their troubles are only just beginning.
With the return of Bella Swan comes another pack of wolves. They are the Children of the Moon, immortal and hunted down to near extinction by the Volturi. The wolves that show up are a mishmash of three united packs, banding together for power as well as their existence. Once nothing more than slaves to the vampires, they have united in a last effort to take out the vampires once and for all. Though many were born to the lifestyle, the violence that sometimes comes with the lycans has led to more than a few of their numbers being turned from humans. These bitten lycans live shorter periods but are still as volatile as the immortals. They have set their sights on the Volturi, intending to lure them to Forks to wage their battle. They are living on the reservation and assisting the Quileute’s with anything they need in order to forge an alliance and attack the vampires with everything they have.
The Volturi are not so stupid. Bella and Renata are feeding them information and they have their own methods of finding things out. Every day brings more and more Volturi into the peaceful world of Forks, threatening to destroy the entire town and everything around it.
The humans of Forks are living oblivious to the things that go bump in the night. Sometimes the bogeyman is real, and not even the covers can hide you from his sight. The world is a dark place, and it’s only getting darker here in Forks. As twilight fades to black, what will you do when you find yourself immersed in darkness?[/ul]
