Appearance::
Nerina is beautiful young girl from Four. She has dark drown hair that cascades down to her upper back. It has a bit of a wave to it, as well as some faint highlights of a more redish brown, mixed in it as well. Her skin has a sun-kissed tan from spending so much time outdoors, and around the water. Nerina is a very slight girl, but has a lean muscular build from working on boats and fishing. She only stands at around 5' 3", and only tips the scales at about 107lb. Her legs are long in proportion to the rest of her body, not so much though that she looks at all gawky. She's very graceful and has a flowing gait. When one sees Nerina walking along the beaches of Four they can't help but stop and look. Nerina's most stunning feature though, would have to be her green-blue eyes. They're a paler version of the color the ocean water is. Her lighter colored eyes really stand out against her golden skin and dark hair. They have almost a haunting look about them, as if she's looking through you,instead of at you. She normally leaves her hair down, but once in a while you will see it braided, or in a low ponytail. she dresses very practically, and never seems to over do it, or coat herself in make-up. She doesn't find a need for it, and doesn't need to flaunt herself to get noticed. She is not at all vain. Nerina thinks her brother is indeed very handsome, and despite the fact the two look very similar, she has never really thought of herself as pretty, never mind beautiful. Nerina seems to be the only one who's oblivious to her beauty.
Personality::
Nerina is an interesting character, to say the least. She is very loyal to those she cares about. She does have a rebellious side that is often kept masked, but it does come shining through from time to time. Being very ambitious, Nerina is a hard worker, and likes to get things done to the best of her abilities. Once you befriend Nerina she will stick by your side no matter what, and will always look out for you. Getting this close to her, is the challenging part. She's always very distant, as if she's in a world no one else knows about. Even though she's small and doesn't look like much Nerina is courageous. Like a lion in a lambs clothing. Being decisive and determined, Nerina will always fight for what she believes in and will do what is necessary to achieve her goals without hesitation. She is persevering, and won't back down easily. Nerina is afraid to place to much faith in someone, in fear of being let down or stabbed in the back. Unfortunately she is unforgiving, once you've wronged her, it is highly unlikely she will ever trust you again. Being grateful for what she has Nerina doesn't place a lot of value on material items. One thing others seem to notice after only a short time of talking to her is that Nerina is very mature for her age. She is open-minded, and a good listener, the trick is getting her to talk back to you. Being very practical, she never gets her hopes up to high, and always takes things as they are. She is very reliable, and once you have trusted her to do something, it will always get done to the very best of her abilities. Nerina is very self-reliant, she needs no one to look after her despite only being fifteen. She is sincere and honest, almost painfully so. She'll tell you things as they are, she doesn't sugar-coat anything. Being very suspicious and mistrusting of others, Nerina always assumes someone has a alternate motive for things. Although she does have an excellent willingness to work and listen, she is not one to do something just because it is convenient for her. Some people are fascinated by her, others frustrated, it's all about how you look at things.
History::
Nerina lives with just her mother and her very ill older brother. When she was only five years old her father was killed, and his killer was never found. It left the rest of the family in shock. Then to add insult to injury when she was ten-years old and her brother was twelve, he fell very ill. No doctor has been able to figure out what is wrong with him. He's somehow managed to cling to life for the past five years. Between her husband's death, and her son's illness, Nerina's mother is very depressed, therefore most of the responsibility has fallen to Nerina.
Nerina spends countless hours tending to her brother. He means the world to her and she refuses to let him go. You can often hear her singing him to sleep at night or telling him stories. Yes he's older, but he's dependent on his younger sister. Nerina knows her brother feels guilty that he can't be the 'man of the house' and that his little sister is the one keeping them all afloat. She has always been very close to her brother. When he was still a picture of health the two of them did everything together. You wouldn't see one without the other. That is now a distant memory of a happier time.
Thinking back to the earliest part of her life Nerina can vaguely remember her father. He always took good care of his family and worked long hours to make sure they had everything they needed. Back then her mother was happy, and lively. She spent all her time with her two kids. Then after her husband was brutally killed by an unknown stranger, she became withdrawn, but she stayed strong for her children. Then once her son became very ill, Nerina's mother lost it and went into a deep depression. Numerous doctor's have all said Nerina's brother has about a 20% chance of living, the odds are certainly not in his favor.
Things have changed so much, Nerina has had to adjust and fast. She's made the change from daughter and younger sister, to care giver fairly easily. But it's still a lot of pressure on a fifteen year old girl. She vividly remembers spending hours with her brother on the beach, she could talk to him about anything, and now he barely has the strength to speak. This has forced Nerina to keep a lot of her emotions bottled up, which we all know means, they all have to come bursting out eventually.
When she turned thirteen Nerina got a job down at the docks. She helps with boat repair, and fishing. It's very hard work, but it keeps her small family feed. She is saving up a bit each month to take her brother to District Six to be looked at by one of there specialists, seeing as no one in Four can give them any answers as to whats wrong with him.
