Nicknames:: Dan-Sam, Sam-Dan, Sam, Dan, Sammy
Age:: 18
Gender:: Male
Residency:: Wanderer
Appearance::
Sam, because of his ancestry, is of stocky build. He isn't scrawny, but compared to the rest of his family, he's more on the lean side. However, though he's the lean one of the family, compared to the average Panem citizen, he's stocky. And not only that, but he stands at 6'7", so to some he may look intimidating -- but his eyes offset his daunting demeanor. The irises are a very calm dark oceanic blue, just barely lighter than royal blue. His hair is short and blonde, only making the color of his eyes stand out more. Across his chest and back are four long, parallel scars from when he had been attacked by a bear, and not to mention all the little scars on his arms and one long one running diagonally from his right temple, across the bridge of his nose and ending next to the bottom of his left cheek. There is also a shorter scar running from underneath his left eye to under his ear, slightly onto his neck.
Sam usually will wear dark khaki or black cargo pants, which are always frayed at the heel and tops of most of the pockets. He also wears a white T-shirt usually, not really liking many colors other than white, light blue, or silver. Whenever he doesn't go around barefoot, he puts on an old pair of hiking-type boots, and despite their raggedy-ness, he still loves them.
Personality::
Sam loves to have fun. There's really no other way to put it. He's quite the risk-taker, loving the adrenaline rush and the possible danger of any situation. It just gives him a thrill that nothing else really can, and he enjoys it. Not only is he an adrenaline junkie, but he loves to have a few bottles of vodka every now and then. Drinking was actually a habit he had gotten into because of his father, despite how bitter the drink was. And whenever he manages to get himself drunk -- which happens more than he'll admit to it -- it mellows him out. He will, however, say things that probably shouldn't be said, but physically he is a lot calmer than he would be on a normal day.
At friendship, Sam is as loyal as any other person. However, his biggest problem is sticking up for his friends. Usually he'll just linger quietly, unless someone says something that really pisses him off, and then he won't hesitate to throw around his own comments. He's a pretty decent fighter, having been in quite a few bar fights, though he's never killed anyone and he doesn't plan on it. And when it comes to love, there is no bigger teddy bear than Sam. If he really thinks he's in love, he'll fall head-over-heels to try to impress her or get her approval. Call him ditsy, but he doesn't know any other way to deal with crushes.
History::
Sam grew up in Siberia, Russia, and though the weather there was harsh, his family relationship was even harsher. Almost every night his father would come come drunk, and usually in a sour mood. He often would beat Sam's mother, but occasionally he would take out his fury on the little boy. The man was also very possessive, so whenever Sam would try to play with, say, a bowl and a spoon, his father would blow up on him. Sam never understood why until he was roughly thirteen, which was when he started drinking. Because his father liked vodka so much, Sam wanted to know why, so in the middle of the night he stole a bottle from his father's stash (knowing he was going to be punished for it later) and tried a sip. Despite how bitter it was, he liked it.
The next morning, Sam was beaten by his hungover father for having stolen a bottle, but the boy continued to steal one every so often. At this point his mother had become worried, trying to talk him out of his habit, and at one point the boy ran away. He took one of the family's reindeer that they used to pull a sled, riding it into the forest. Sam managed to survive about four days in the Siberian wilderness before a bear attacked him, explaining all of his scars. The reindeer, however, fought off the bear before it went in for the deathblow. The deer then managed to scoop the bleeding boy up in its antlers and carry him back to his house where his mother rushed out to get him.
It took Sam quite a while to heal, though, because his father continued his drunken rampage. When the boy was about fourteen, his mother secretly took him to a port, wanting him to get a new start at a better life in Panem, though she had never been told that the Games were still being held. All she knew was that there had been some sort of revolution and things were better, so she thought Sam would have a better chance there. Sam agreed to go, wanting his mother to come with him, but she refused. He was then taken onto a cargo ship and worked as a deck hand in return for traveling, eventually reaching Panem and ready to start a new life.
Now that he lives in Panem, Sam resides in a small cabin he found in the woods. He really enjoys it there, liking it much more than back in Siberia.
